Introductory Information: Here are some things I discuss with each client before we begin to work together:
Limits of Confidentiality:
Confidentiality will be maintained at all times with regard to all matters discussed in counseling, with the following exceptions:
If you, as a client, request in writing that confidential information be disclosed to a third party;
If my records are subpoenaed by a court of law;
If I have reason to believe you may be a danger to yourself, or to someone else;
If I have reason to be concerned for the welfare of a child (under 16 years of age.)
In these cases, I am required to disclose confidential information to the appropriate party. If at all possible, I will discuss my concerns with you beforehand, and let you know how I am planning to proceed.
As part of my commitment to professional development, I consult with peers and with professional supervisors. From time to time, I may wish to share non-identifying information with my colleagues for the benefit of their varied insights and expertise. I believe these forms of consultation enhance what I am able to offer to you as my client.
Fees:
Fees are negotiated in the first session: I am committed to offering affordable services to my clients and can in some cases offer a sliding fee scale, depending on your household income and number of dependents. In most cases it works best if clients pay at the end of each session, (by cash or cheque) and a receipt will be issued in return. My work is supervised by a registered psychologist for the purposes of insurance coverage. If you have insurance coverage, please ask me about this.
Appointment Times:
Being on time for appointments is a sign of respect we can show each other. I will make every effort to be punctual and to give adequate notice if rescheduling is necessary. Please let me know if you cannot come to a scheduled appointment 24 hours in advance, otherwise you will be responsible for paying the session fee. I do understand that this is not possible in cases of emergency.
